Iran planning terrorist attacks in Europe?

The IHT reports on an Open Europe meeting yesterday, at which security analyst Claude Moniquet warned that Iran had the ability to launch terrorist attacks on targets in western Europe, including nuclear power plants. "We have serious signals that something is under preparation in Europe… Iranian intelligence is working extremely hard to prepare its people and to prepare actions," Moniquet said. The Mail reports that Conservative MP Patrick Mercer told the meeting that a friend serving in southern Afghanistan had sent him an email stating: "We are fighting an undeclared war over here against Iranian-backed militias." The event is also reported in the Sun, Herald, Express, Jerusalem Post and Haaretz.

Meanwhile, Conservative leader David Cameron issued his first detailed statement on Iran, saying that there was less than a year before the regime possessed nuclear weapons. He did not rule out military action, and called on the EU, which is Iran's biggest trading partner, to restrict export credits to Teheran, which are presently worth £9 billion. He said all investment in Iran's crucial oil and natural gas industries should be curtailed.
