Who speak peace to their neighbors,
But evil is in their hearts.
The wise learn from the Bible and history to beware Babylonian envoys:
2 Kings 20
12 At that time Berodach-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick [why how nice of him! What could possibly be wrong with letters and a gift showing "compassion" for Hezekiah's ill state?] 13 And Hezekiah was attentive to them, and showed them all the house of his treasures—the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all his armory—all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say, and from where did they come to you?”
So Hezekiah said, “They came from a far country, from Babylon.”
15 And he said, “What have they seen in your house?”
So Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.”
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD: 17 ‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says the LORD. 18 ‘And they shall take away some of your sons who will descend from you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”
The Jerusalem Post ('A Traveler's fanzine takes off' by Giden Keren, 07-08-96) reported:
'The one time The Traveller did run a political piece, it ruffled feathers with the local authorities. In 'Will Jerusalem become an international city?' by American writer David Ben-Ariel, readers were warned about a German-Vatican plot to take over Jerusalem, urged to take back the Temple Mount and dislodge 'as symbols of foreign occupation' Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.
'David Ben-Ariel was a nice non-Jewish guy with strong views and a great love for this country,' says Nick Day, 'but he probably was talking a bit too much when he should have kept his mouth shut.'
Following publication of that article, Ben-Ariel was arrested and locked up for a week [actually two] before being expelled from the country. Ever since, The Traveller has been a bit sheepish about accepting political material... /
Israeli investigative author Barry Chamish mentions my unjust deportation in his book Traitors and Carpetbaggers in the Promised Land and remarks at how the Israeli government OVERREACTED to my article. He feels that's why they deported me: exposing the German-Vatican plot to occupy Jerusalem! I think that's definitely part of it but that it's all involved with highlighting the plight of the Temple Mount.

|Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski declared that a local Sages Council will soon be established, comprised of religious and secular leaders representing the three predominant monotheistic faiths.|
Making the announcement during a municipality reception this week marking the new year of 2007, Mayor Lupolianski explained that the council's role will be to improve and enhance the lives of the people of Jerusalem, to create dialogue and understanding between Jews, Muslims and Christians, and to overcome boundaries for all those living in the city.
"The council will ignore the so-called 'large, international politics,' which often works in the name of anonymous interests, with no regard for the people living in Jerusalem," Lupolianski said. "The council will set an example for peaceful co-existence and will enable us all to overcome difficulties, solve disputes, get to know each other better and share the vast knowledge we've all accumulated, all for one common goal - the [welfare of the] city of Jerusalem and its residents."
Sages Councils such as that announced by the mayor were common in several cities long ago. Their role was to consolidate ideas for the improvement of their respective cities.
Mayor Lupolianski came up with the idea to create such a council in Jerusalem following meetings he held with Jewish, Christian and Muslim religious leaders from various denominations. One of the topics raised in those meetings was the lack of direct dialogue between the various communities populating the city, which is one of the most diverse in the world. Sometimes, people who live just a few feet from one another needed a mediator in order to communicate, municipality spokesman Gideon Schmerling said. This lack of dialogue is one of the reasons Schmerling noted for tensions flaring occasionally between the various religious and ethnic denominations, with Mayor Lupolianski often called in to mediate.
In light of this reality, Lupolianski believes that regular meetings of the council, several times a year, will promote inter-cultural dialogue and improve the quality of life for all the people of Jerusalem.
"Woe to Ariel, Ariel, the city where David dwelt" (Isaiah 29:1).
The Vatican is pulling its strings, turning up the heat on Jerusalem, with all these wolves in sheep's clothing proposals. What a shame that Jerusalem's Mayor Uri Lupolianski is playing along with it, like Ehud Olmert, playing with strange fire that will burn all Jerusalem and scorch Israel.
The ongoing Holy See- State of Israel collaboration conjures up these vile ideas with the aim of undermining Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem, and then when it's sufficiently weakened, brazenly insisting upon the implementation of the accursed UN Resolution 181 to deal the death blow to Jewish control of the Holy City and supplant it with German-Jesuit EU supervision -- as replacement theology demands.
Let Mayor Lupolianski spend his time more constructively by demanding Israel's 1967 Law for the Protection of the Holy Places is enforced, putting an end to the Nazi-Muslim occupation of the Temple Mount where the Wakf discriminates daily against Christians and Jews. Remove the foreign mosques and prepare for the House of Prayer for All Peoples.

Holy See- State of Israel: “Some progress” in today’s meeting

Grand Master turns up the heat on Jerusalem

Grand Master turns up heat on Jerusalem
Address of the Grand Master to the Diplomatic Corps
Rome, 9 January 2007
His Most Eminent Highness the Prince and Grand Master,
Fra' Andrew BERTIE
SOVEREIGN MILITARY ORDER OF MALTA
I will visit the Holy Land during 2007 within the framework of an international pilgrimage that I will be carrying out next October.
In this spirit I would like to recall the various observations which have been made over the years with regard to the problem of the Holy Places, and in particular the position of the Holy See in relation to Jerusalem. A city of three religions, it is at the same time a land of two peoples, Jews and Palestinians, as well as a World Heritage centre. Pilgrims from all over the world must be able to have access to it. It should thus be given a special, internationally guaranteed statute.
The Sovereign Order of Malta, for whom the protection of the Holy Places has always been an absolute priority in its mission in the service of the Church and in its hospitaller and humanitarian activities, is at the disposal of governments to help seek any kind of solution, bearing in mind the aspirations and legitimate interests of the different populations involved.
This is because Jerusalem must be a permanent place for seeking peace and reconciliation between religions, peoples and cultures. [Emphasis mine]
The cauldron that is Jerusalem is having the heat turned up by a series of planned events, the concerted efforts of Roman wolves in sheep's clothing, orchestrated by the Vatican. The Roman Catholic Cult, the Babylonian Mystery religion, covets the Holy City and aims on wresting control of Ariel (Jerusalem's nickname) from Israeli sovereignty by any means necessary. The Time of Jacob's Trouble is brewing in the North.
Due to the inexcusable increase in Israeli sins, especially their rejection of the miracle of 1967 -- the Six Day War that liberated Jerusalem and its biblical territories from Arab occupation, namely Judaism's holiest site, the Temple Mount -- and because so many Israelis tolerated the intolerable expulsion of Jews from their homes in Gush Katif and Shomron rather than return to God and remove the threat of sworn Arab enemies, the Great Creator God of Jacob-Israel will permit the King of the North (the imminent wannabe divine emperor elect by the German-Jesuits) to have his way with Israel, to pollute His Holy Land and stomp Jerusalem with his filthy EU jackboot for three and a half years -- a signature act that God has so decreed it (Dan. 12:7).
13 And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, "What do you see?"
And I said, "I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the north."
14 Then the LORD said to me:
"Out of the north calamity shall break forth
On all the inhabitants of the land.
15 For behold, I am calling
All the families of the kingdoms of the north," says the LORD;
"They shall come and each one set his throne
At the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem,
Against all its walls all around,
And against all the cities of Judah.
16 I will utter My judgments
Against them concerning all their wickedness,
Because they have forsaken Me,
Burned incense to other gods,
And worshiped the works of their own hands.
Israel's election of the bought and paid for foreign interest party, the rotten to the core Kadima party of prostitutes and criminals, proved Israel was intent on going backwards, dead set on digging themselves in deeper, rather than going forward (as Kadima means "forward" in Hebrew, twisted purposely in true Luciferian style - Isa. 5:20) to get out of their national mess:
23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.' 24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.
Both Torah-observant Jews and Christian Zionists warned Israelis against Kadima and encouraged them to remember the Land Covenant to keep it (it's the Promised Land of Israel). Men and women of faith implored Israelis to refuse to surrender to post-Zionist forces who would continue to dismember the Jewish Homeland to forge an accursed "Palestine" that would ultimately burn every Jew.
The Grand Master, quoted above, is thinly veiling his references to UN Resolution 181. It's been laying in wait all these years, like the secret Nazis -- both about to come back with a vengeance!
Catholic Europe is determined to restore their Royals to dormant thrones and revive the "Holy Roman Empire" with its crown: the Crusader-Kingdom of Jerusalem.
Treacherous Jews, UNJews, apostate Jews, aid and abet those who would undermine Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem. Forces within and without the Holy Land are driven to help Rome fulfill its grand design and pave the way to transfer Israel's most prized possession, its priceless crown jewel -- the Temple Mount -- to the Vatican. Mt. Zion is already under siege, as they seek to secure a foothold to breach the Holy City.
The glorious good news, our glimmer of hope in this growing world of darkness, is that Two Witnesses will rise and shine and testify in occupied Jerusalem and face the nations and address Israel's captive audience -- in the spirit of Elijah -- and give hope and comfort that our God will come and save us. The unholy alliance between Ahab (Israelites and Jews) and Jezebel (Roman Catholic Cult) will soon be history, as we're assured its days are numbered.

When the expulsion from Gaza was taking place, I tried to tell anyone who would listen: "There is a reason these actions are taking place and it is not because all of a sudden Sharon became a lefty".
Today, I am trying to tell people that Ehud Olmert is not telling the Palestinians "You have won: We will give you everything" because he has "gone mad" or because he is being "naive".
Olmert and Sharon before him, and Rabin before him, are doing exactly what they are told: Creating the conditions for future conflict.
Here is how the game works:
Jews were forced to leave Gaza "for their own good". A low-intensity war was planned (the one taking place right now) between Israel and Hamas. The new plan was to introduce a whole new batch of instability into the area. Just as has been the "program" for the past 80 years in this region.
As a result, the Jews could not be allowed to remain in their homes.
Why not? Because if you want to have a manageable battlefield, you can not have Israeli citizens in the middle of it. Hamas needed space to set up their operations -- training grounds and firing zones. They could not do that in crowded Gaza streets. So Jewish settlements were torn down and Hamas training facilities and rocket launch sites were erected in their place.
Israel could destroy Hamas tomorrow, just as it could have destroyed Hezbullah in less than three days had the army been allowed to. Every Israeli knows this. So how come that did not and does not happen?
It is not because the Israeli national leadership is worried about "world public opinion". The citizens of the U.S. and the rest of the civilized world would not have a problem ending the continued existence of Hamas. Yet Israel does not do this.
Israel does not exterminate Hamas for the same reason America never caught Bin Laden.
The reason why the U.S. invaded Afghanistan in October, 2001, was "because the Taliban did not hand over Bin Laden". But five years later -- the Americans still cannot say for sure whether he is even alive or not. With all the might and power of the U.S. army and armies throughout the Western World, and intelligence agencies throughout the world, this one guy cannot be apprehended.
He is either superhuman, or the Western World is incompetent. Or: The West lets him get away.
Same thing with Israel: Can the I.D.F. not know exactly where the rocket launchers are in Gaza -- and knock them out from the air? Of course they can. So why are Israeli leaders not doing this? Because doing so would dramatically improve Israel's position and strength, and those from abroad who are pulling the strings do not want a strong and committed Jewish State. They thrive on Israel being divided and weak.
It would not be possible for Hamas to exist if the Israeli national leadership did not allow it to exist. It does exist because having Hamas and Hezbollah around allows the foreign elements to intervene freely in the affairs of the region -- through the national puppetships of Olmert, Abbas, and Seniora -- from all sides. That is how the foreign elements force their way into the domestic affairs of the countries -- and pressure national leaders to do the bidding of foreign masters.
Why do they do this? Take your pick: To control the events. To keep the region in a state of permanent conflict. To sell arms. To keep the price of oil high.
The "why" may be less important than the fact -- not appreciated by all -- that this is just the way it is. And always has been. Hamas and Hezbollah and Bin-Laden, by being allowed to survive, serve a common purposes of the elite masters of war: Intimidate, divide and rule. Not just the Middle East. The "democracies" of the West as well.

I wouldn’t doubt the Israeli “leaders” will collaborate with the Europeans to permit and ENABLE the Islamofascists to inflict further damage to Israel, beating Israel down psychologically and physically, so that the Israelis will feel it “necessary” for foreign intervention and welcome them as “saviors” when Bible believers know a brutal betray is in store once the fox is in the chicken coop. Watch for UN Resolution 181 to be offered as the “final solution.”

Israel must submit to the Word and Will of God and remove the Ishmaelites again, as they've proven necessary time and again.

2 Thessalonians 2
3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, [not merely of the Jews] shewing himself that he is God.
1And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
So we can clearly see in Scripture that both the apostles Paul and John, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, refer to the imminent Third Temple as the TEMPLE OF GOD - not merely of the Jews. The holy Temple of God isn't "undone" to them, but it will be the undoing of the Beast and False Prophet when they trespass "where they ought not," and Europe's wannabe divine emperor pollutes the "most holy place" as Yeshua referred to it, prophesying. He didn't speak against the holy Temple or Temple Mount - just against sins that pollute the place. Yeshua, prophesying, recognized the Temple Mount is still HOLY - even if others fail to see this.
I was daily with you in the temple teaching...
Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
And He was teaching daily in the temple...
Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel
Then early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him.
and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart
Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
So one came and told them, saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach - Tuesday, 16 January, 2007
Saddam Hussein's execution reminded us that some crimes are so heinous
no society can tolerate them, and that when you murder more than one
million people, even traditional opponents of the death penalty might
just applaud when you hang.
It is a lesson the Catholic Church would do well to contemplate. Last
week, the church broke ranks with nearly every moral voice and came out
publicly against Saddam's execution. But if that were not enough, Pope
Benedict XVI granted a private audience to a delegation of Iranian
officials, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Manoucher Mottaki, whose
ministry sponsored the recent Holocaust denial conference in Teheran.
The pope is the foremost spiritual leader on earth. It shocks every
moral sensibility that he would choose to legitimize a wretch like this.
More troubling yet, the pope conveyed warm greetings to Iranian
president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad through the delegation.
Warm greetings? Ahmadinejad is calling virtually every week for Israel's
annihilation. Does the pope have anything to share with this man aside
from his contempt? One would hope that a pope who witnessed the
Holocaust and the destruction of the Jewish people would practice extra
caution before hanging out with those who wish to renew Hitler's efforts.
LET'S NOT finesse this. Ahmadinejad is an international abomination who
can lay strong claim to being the single most hate-filled man alive.
Surely the pope can find more worthy recipients of his time and
Pope John Paul II was a man of great courage who helped to challenge and
defeat communism. Yet even he made the repeated mistake of legitimizing
terrorists, repeatedly meeting with Yasser Arafat. But if one might
excuse those meetings on the grounds that other world leaders did the
same, the pope's actions at the time of Arafat's death were jarring and
incomprehensible. He praised Arafat as "a leader of great charisma who
loved his people and sought to lead them toward national independence.
May God welcome in His mercy the soul of the illustrious deceased and
give peace to the Holy Land."
Did anyone seriously believe that God was going to welcome this
baby-killer into heaven rather than placing him in hell? Why would
virtuous and righteous men like John Paul and Benedict make such
The Catholic Church seems to spend a great deal of time upholding its
standards of sexual morality, like condemning gay unions and
contraception, and comparably little time condemning the tyrants and
dictators who slaughter the children whose lives the church declares to
be holy. So why the omission?
It bespeaks an unfortunate and continuing pattern on behalf of our
Christian brethren to refuse to hate evil. Many of my Christian brothers
and sisters mistakenly believe that God forbids hatred. They quote
Jesus' teaching to turn the other cheek and his admonishment to love
your enemies as proof that we dare never hate.
AS A radio host, I am called by many evangelical Christians who say that
in God's eyes we are all sinners, and thus from a heavenly perspective
Osama bin Laden and the average housewife from Kansas are equal. Bin
Laden must indeed face justice for his crimes, but we dare not hate him
seeing that Jesus still loves him.
But this is a travesty of Jesus' teachings. It would make this great
Hebrew personality into someone who had contempt for his victims as he
extended love to their murderers. Jesus advocated turning the other
cheek to petty slights and affronts to honor, not to mass graves and
Likewise, while Jesus taught that we ought to love our own enemies, this
did not apply to God's enemies. Our enemies are people who take our
parking spot or who are our rivals for a promotion at work. God's
enemies are those who slaughter his children.
Let not any Christian think that Jesus' sympathy was for anyone other
than the oppressed and the poor. True, the Bible commands us to "love
our neighbor as ourselves," but the man who kills children is not our
neighbor. Having cast off the image of God, he has lost his divine spark
and is condemned to eternal oblivion, from which not even a belief in
salvation will rescue him.
He who murders God's children has been lost to God forever and has
abandoned all entitlement to love, earning eternal derision in its stead.
AMID MY deep and abiding respect for the Christian faith, I state
unequivocally that to love the terrorist who flies a civilian plane into
a civilian building, or a white supremacist who drags a black man three
miles while tied to the back of a car is not just inane, it is deeply
sinful. To send warm greetings to an Iranian president who has just
hosted a former head of the KKK is an affront to blacks throughout the
world just as much as it is to Jews.
To love evil is itself evil, and constitutes a passive form of complicity.
We are all known by the company we keep. If Ahmadinejad of Iran called
for the extermination of all the world's Catholics, the pope might think
twice before meeting his representatives. He ought to accord the same
respect to his Jewish brethren.
The writer is host of The Learning Channel's television program "Shalom
in the Home," whose second season begins on January 21. He is currently
writing a book on the necessity of hating evil (www.shmuley.com).
If you truly understood and believed that the Roman Catholic Cult is foreign to Christianity in every sense of the word, the Babylonian Mystery religion dressed in papal drag, you wouldn't be so shocked about the "lapses" of the sorcerer-popes, in the spirit of Balaam, meeting or greeting those who are intent on Israel's destruction. After all, they are Roman wolves in sheep's clothing whose evil eye is on Jerusalem and who covet the Temple Mount.
The vipers in the Vatican cannot be trusted.
I say this as a Christian Zionist, not as a Jew or other non-believer.

Is there strong indication in the Bible that Israel will have a change of heart and accept Yeshua because of the preaching of two prophets in Jerusalem, the Two Witnesses announced in Zechariah 4 and Revelation 11? Will the Jews grasp Jesus is the Anointed One, the Lamb and Lion of God, and finally convert?
Yes! There is definite proof of such as Yeshua clearly said He wouldn't return to Jerusalem, Judah or the Jews until they have a change of heart and welcome Him. The Two Witnesses, in the power and spirit of Elijah (who is dead and buried and awaits the First Resurrection), will prepare the way by preparing our people to receive our King!
39 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!'
Zechariah the prophet foresees such a long-awaited repentance and recognition! The Jews in Jerusalem will perceive that the Pierced One is the Firstborn of Judah and the Firstborn of God -- our King Messiah!
10 "And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 And the land shall mourn, every family by itself: the family of the house of David [political establishment] by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi [religious establishment] by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14 all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves.
Yeshua, first and foremost, is the King of the Jews, the King of Israel (all Twelve Tribes of Israel). Yeshua is coming back specifically to keep alive God's physical promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and our Israelite forefathers who left Egypt: the iron-clad promise that the Fathers will always have some survivors, some physical remnant, beyond any shadow of a doubt.
The cities of Judah will hear this message loud and clear:
22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.
28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.
44 Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
45 But for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.
We are the physical elect, the physical Chosen People -- primarily the British-Israelites and Jews, Joseph and Judah -- for whose sakes' those days will be cut short by divine intervention or we would all be history and Satan could say God is a liar. But God's Word is good and true and He will prepare our people by a baptism of repentance by the Two Witnesses, speaking to our captive audience from Jerusalem (having been conquered by the German-Jesuit EU), giving us the GOOD NEWS that our personal lord and NATIONAL SAVIOR, our NATIONAL DELIVERER, is coming soon to save us.
It is this glorious GOOD NEWS that I share within the first chapter of Beyond Babylon: Europe's Rise and Fall, appropriately called: "Survival Guaranteed!"

Excavations being conducted opposite the Western Wall Plaza have uncovered an aqueduct that brought water to the Holy Temple, as well as a ritual bath from that period.
The never-before-excavated area is situated behind the Western Wall police station, adjacent to the plaza where millions of worshipers and tourists come each year to visit the Western Wall and Temple Mount.
The new archaeological find uncovers a missing link in the ancient water system, known as the "Lower Aqueduct." This system channeled water from Solomon’s Pools near Bethlehem (located several miles south of Jerusalem) directly to the national focal point of Jewish worship - the Temple Mount.
Solomon’s pools, situated just north of the modern Jewish town of Efrat, cover an area of about 7 acres and can hold three million gallons of water. A lengthy aqueduct conveyed the water from the lowest pool through Bethlehem, across the Gihon valley, along the western slope of the Tyropoeon valley, and into the cisterns underneath the Temple Mount. Today, the water from the pools reaches only Bethlehem due to the destruction of the aqueducts.
Current plans for the partition wall will leave Solomon’s Pools outside the area of Jewish sovereignty.
The plastered hewn-stone mikva (ritual bath) unearthed at the excavation is from the Second Temple period. It was originally situated in the foundation level of a private home during the time of the Second Temple. The ritual bath was damaged at a later date when the bedrock cliff opposite it was hewn into a vertical wall that rose up to a maximum height of about thirty feet.
The most extensive remains of the period are those of a Roman-Byzantine colonnaded street – the Eastern Cardo. Included in that area is a covered stoa, a row of shops and several artifacts.
The street appears on a 6th century map known as the Medaba Map and is known as the Eastern Cardo or the Valley Cardo. The lavish colonnaded street began at the Damascus Gate in the north and led south, running the length of the channel in the Tyropoeon Valley. Sections of this street were revealed in the past in the northern part of the Old City, at a depth of about four meters (12 feet) below the pavement. The full eleven-meter (33 foot) width of the original road was exposed in the present excavation for the first time.
“The street was paved with large flagstones that were set in place diagonally, in the customary method of the Roman world, which was probably meant to prevent wagons from slipping,” Shlomit Wexler-Bdolah, the director of the excavations, explained. She added that a drainage system was installed below the flagstones.
To the west of the street was a covered stoa that was six meters wide, and beyond it was a row of shops set inside cells whose walls were hewn out of the bedrock cliff. A large base of a magnificent corner column has just been exposed in the eastern side of the street and may be part of a building that stood there, or an intersection with an entrance to the road that runs to the east.
The Antiquities Authority is carrying out the excavations of the 80 by 200 foot area west of the Western Wall at the request of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation. The area will soon be the site of the Western Wall Heritage Center.

Silence = Death
We must plead on behalf of the innocent, and be the voice of those without adequate representation. The greatest crime against humanity is going on now! Yet millions of professing Christians look the other way in shameful silence: ABORTION! It used to be a country’s worst enemies who ripped up their pregnant women—now we’ve turned on ourselves. Don't abort our future: Think twice, choose life, let love grow.
Defend life: present the case of the preborn before the public, and rescue them from the abortionist’s kangaroo court. We’ve sacrificed our children on the altars of convenience, baptized our babies in blood, and trashed their grisly remains—if they haven’t been sold for Nazi experiments. Where’s the moral outrage been? Why haven’t we demanded that our government intervene? Stop the slaughter!
God sees the bloodbath we’re permitting. He knows the hard hearts, calloused consciences, and dishonest individuals that are involved and will bring them to trial: "Shall I not punish them for these things? says the LORD. And shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?" (Jer. 5:9). No wonder God’s going to allow our German-Jesuit enemies to be so cruel!
HITLER Will Judge Us!
Hitler’s Nazi Germany will rise up in judgment against our hypocritical nations! We condemned them and now we’re acting worse than they did! We didn’t buy their lame excuses of ignorance or blind obedience, and yet today we try to hide our horrors behind "it’s the law of the land."
We allow DEATH CLINICS in major cities, and support those mad doctors who ought to be tried for murder. We condemned those German businesses who became rich at others expense, and yet our land is filled with the abortionists' BLOOD MONEY! It’s not a God-given right to take the life of your child.
That some would argue it’s not a baby, and others attempt to justify this carnage…. It’s obvious we’re under a CURSE if we can’t even think straight! Our Puritan ancestors properly discerned, “Whom God would destroy, He first sends mad” (Deut. 28:28). God save us from ourselves...

"WHO MURDERED YITZHAK RABIN?"
Chapter Nine (Part Two): "The Kempler Film"
R&B Editor's Notes:
"Who Murdered Yitzhak Rabin?": The Root & Branch Information Services is serializing the book Who Murdered Yitzhak Rabin?, by Mr. Barry Chamish, with permission of the author, to commemorate the eleventh anniversary of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin (November 4, 1995 -- November 4, 2006).
The Bible Says:
"How is the faithful city [Jerusalem] become a harlot. She that was full of justice, righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers. Your silver is become dross, your wine is mixed with water. Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves; every one loves bribes, and follows after rewards; they judge not the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.
Therefore, says the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah, I will ease Me of My adversaries, and avenge Me of My enemies; and I will turn My hand upon you, and purge away your dross as with lye, and will take away all your allow; and I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counsellors as at the beginning; afterward you [Jerusalem] shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city. Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and they who return of her with righteousness.
But the destruction of the transgressors and the sinners shall be together, and they who forsake the Lord shall be consumed. For they shall be ashamed of the terebinths which you have desired, and you shall be confounded for the garden that you have chosen. For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water. And the strong shall be as tow, and his work as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them".

Chapter Nine (Part Two): "The Kempler Film"
The Kempler film reveals that the whole story is utter hogwash. A famous photo of Rabin being shoved into the car shows up on the film as a flash. At that point, we know Rubin, injured arm and all, is not on the ground, rather he is on his feet holding Rabin. There are 24 frames/second in video film, so timing events is simple.
From the time of the second shot to the fash, 4.6 seconds pass. Try repeating, "Yitzhak can you hear me, just me and no one else, gddamit" three times in 4.6 seconds. Then add the hiatus, a hiatus long enough for a man being shot to decide it is safe to get up, and think to yourself, "A defect in the weapon". Try all that for 4.6 seconds. Rubin's timing is simply impossible.
Further, Rubin is not filmed on top of Rabin until all shots are fired, and Rabin does not jump into the car. The photo of Rubin pulling Rabin into the car disproves that even without the added proof of the Kempler film, Rubin's testimony, to put it mildly, is not born out by the Kempler film.
Now comes the piece de resistance, the most haunting moment of the tape. Two seconds before Rabin is placed in the car, the opposite back passenger door slams shut. This segment has been examined and tested by numerous journalists, every shadow on the screen traced, every possible explanation exhausted and in the end it has withstood all scrutiny. Someone, an unknown fourth person, possibly the murderer, was waiting inside the car for Rabin.
When I show this segment to audiences, inevitably I am asked, "Why did they make this film if it is so incriminating?" I reply, "The film convinced the whole country that Amir murdered Rabin. People always say, 'But I saw him do it with my own eyes'. That is what the film was supposed to do. But the conspirators were so sloppy, they left in the truth. Either they did not notice it, or they thought no one else would".
So why did Yigal Amir's attorneys not tear Kempler to bits on the stand or use the film to its maximum advantage? Truth be told, Amir's attorneys either were not interested enough in his welfare, were not properly prepared or were not talented enough to challenge the kangaroo court head on. Take a look at how they handled the issue of the unexplainable closing door:
Defense: "After the event, the back right door of the car was also open".
Kempler: "I filmed what I filmed".
The end. No follow up. It is not that the defense did not have plenty of ammunition. On the night his film was shown on Channel Two in December, 1995, Kempler was interviewed by commentator Rafi Reshef. The fast talking, nervous Kempler was most unbelievable, as the following segments show:
Reshef: "Why did you wait so long to release the film to the public?"
Kempler: "A few reasons. I did not want to be known. Also, I thought it was forbidden to show the film so soon after the murder. The public needed time to digest it as a historic film...But after the Shamgar Commission got it, I kept hearing on the street that I am the sucker of the country. That really aggravated me, so I got a lawyer and decided to make some money selling it".
How altruistic! What Kempler forgets to mention is that he did not tell anyone he had filmed the assassination until two weeks later when supposedly he woke up to what he had and sent the Shamgar Commission a registered letter informing them. In the meantime, he was withholding vital evidence form the police.
Reshef: "Did anyone observe you filming?"
Kempler: "Yes, the bodygua...I'm sure I saw (singer) Aviv Gefen look right into my camera".
Kempler almost let slip that the bodyguards were watching him film. Indeed, this is apparent on the film itself when, just before the Peres cut, one of the bodyguards turns back and looks directly up to him. But Kempler thought the better of it and switched to a nonsensical fantasy involving a pop singer.
Reshef: "Why did you concentrate so much on the killer?"
Kempler: "I felt there was something suspicious about him. I let my imagination run away with me and felt murder in the air. It wasn't so strong when Peres was there but when Rabin appeared, WOW".
Kempler felt there was an assassination in the air and suspected Amir could be the assassin. This was truly a parapsychological feat but lucky it happened or he would not have bothered focusing on Amir. Lucky he just happened to be the only cameraman on the balcony overlooking the murder scene. Luckily, it was so dark at the murder scene few amateur cameras could have captured the act.
Reshef: "There has been much speculation why you happened to be the only one in the right place to film the assassination. How do you explain it?"
Kempler: "I felt someone caused me to be in that place".
Reshef: "What, are you a fatalist?"
Nope, a mystic, as we shall soon see.
Reshef: "Did anyone try to interfere with you?"
Kempler: "There were undercover officers around. One told me it was alright to film but I had to stop when Rabin appeared".
Now compare the next version of events with what Kempler testified to at Amir's trial.
Kempler: "An undercover policeman came up to me and asked me a few questions and asked to see my I.D. I showed it to him and he walked away. He stopped, turned back and shouted, 'What did you say your name was?' I shouted it back. He said, 'Good'. And that was that. The police had all the details of my identity".
So why did the police not call that night to get the film? What is described is a very friendly encounter, indeed. Here is how the incident was transformed for Amir's trial.
Kempler: "There was an undercover cop who told me not to film. I told him he had no right to tell me not to film. I asked him if something secret was going on. I told him again he has no right to tell me not to film. And if he does it again, I would take down his particulars and issue a complaint to the police".
A rather drastically altered situation. Someone thought that Kempler's explanation to Reshef about why he was permitted to film in such a sensitive security location was too weak, so he painted a new, tougher picture. An updated version of his previous explanation about why he focused in on Amir painted a much goofier portrait.
Kempler: "When I stood on the balcony, I spent a lot of time in the dark; and, to my regret, my imagination began to work overtime. I began to imagine many things, even G-d forbid, a political assassination...I have no explanation why I had this feeling. I'm not sure it wasn't something mystic".
And because of this mysticism, Kempler felt...
Kempler: The defendant stood out. I don't know what he did...but I recall he stood out. I can't recall anything other than what I filmed".
Kempler could not "recall anything other than what I filmed" because at the beginning of his testimony he says the film shown to the public "contained no changes or alterations". By the end, he admits, "There are gaps and there are differences".
Why the change of heart? Because Amir's attorneys pointed out some very suspicious contradictions in the film.
Defense: "We don't hear everything in the film but we hear lots, including shouts. So why don't we hear the shouts of 'They're blanks'?"
Kempler: "Don't ask me. I'm not the address".
Defense: "Yoram Rubin testified that he fell on Rabin. Why don't we see that in the film?"
Kempler: "I'm not a video or camera expert. I'm not the address for questions like that".
The address, of course, is the technical department of the Shabak (G.S.S./General Security Services), where the film was altered during the time Kempler decided not to turn it over to the police or sell it. This was not a skilled technical department. While the film was being edited and altered, Yigal Amir was filmed a second time, during his reconstruction of the murder 13 days after the event. This reconstruction at the crime scene deeply compromised the validity of the Kempler film.
The first error made was enormous and was pointed out to me later by a man, who claimed he was the first to report it to the press. In the reconstruction film, Amir shoots with his right hand, as numerous eyewitnesses saw him do. In the still of the Kempler film released initially exclusively to the newspaper, Yediot Ahronot, Amir is shooting with his left hand.
That is not all. In the reconstruction film, Amir has bushy unshaped sideburns past the middle of his ear. The shooter in the Kempler photo still has squared sideburns at the top of his ear. Another person was superimposed over Yigal Amir for the still and there may be one possible reason why. The superimposed figure's arm looks longer, thus reducing the range of the shot, a necessity to be explained shortly. This is just one possibility. There are others, so far, less convincing. Nonetheless, for whatever reason, Amir's image was almost certainly removed from the Kempler film still and replaced by another.
The reconstructions belied the Kempler film in other ways, as reluctantly testified to by Lieutenant Arieh Silberman, Amir's chief investigator, at the defendant's trial.
Defense: "Did you notice the differences between the video shown on Channel Two and the film of the reconstruction? Did you see the reconstruction film?"
Silberman: "I saw the reconstruction. It was of the same event in principle but there was an obvious difference. You can see the difference".
Defense: "You're responsible for the defendant's investigation. Why is there a difference between the reconstruction film and the video shown on Channel Two?"
Silberman: "To my eyes, the difference isn't significant. The defendant doesn't think so. He never brought it up. I wasn't at the reconstruction".
Defense: "Why is there a break when we don't hear part of the audio?"
Silberman: "I didn't make the film. It was handled by the technicians of several units. I'm responsible for investigating the defendant, not the film".
Defense: (Amir now acts as his own attorney) "Is there a difference between the original film and what was shown on Channel Two?"
Silberman: "Could be".
Defense: (Amir) "What's the most outstanding difference?"
Silberman: "The position of the prime minister".
Defense: (Amir) "In the reconstruction, I go straight toward him".
Defense: (Amir) "And in the original video, I took a roundabout route".
Silberman: "According to what I saw, you circled someone before getting behind Rabin".
Amir reconstructed his alleged crime wrongly according to the Kempler film. He shot with the wrong hand according to the still of the Kempler film If Amir's attorneys had bothered to press the issue, they might have been able to construct a plausible argument that he was not even at the scene of the crime, according to the Kempler film.

For Zion's Sake,
American Detained in Jerusalem's Russian Compound
Nobody arrested me. I was detained when I faithfully reported to the police office at 9 a.m. Monday morning, January 9, 1996 (day before my birthday) the day after The Jerusalem Post published on their front page an article shedding light on what they were doing in the dark: "GSS Seeks to Deport American Citizen for Plot to Blow Up Al Aksa Mosque."
After my initial interrogation of six and one half hours, the Thursday before, I reported, as demanded, to the police station Friday morning, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, and then Monday morning the fellow who had actually been nice to me, he said his name was Moshe, was ordered to serve me a deportation order. He expected me to sign it and, APPALLED, I purposely dropped the accursed paper from my hands and let it fall to the floor where it belonged! I refused to sign it.
They put me in that dungeon called the Russian Compound, built hundreds of years ago by the Turks, and which has since been toured by Israeli parliament members saying it should be torn down! I was in a cell made for ten and at one time we had twenty one people in it, with mats lying all over the floor and bed bugs crushed on the walls and everyone but me (by the grace of God) had welts on them from their bites!
We had one "bathroom" for all of us in that cell: it was a literal hole in the floor, and the shower pipe (no shower head) was just over that hole, and a filthy sink, and everyone had to practically beg for toilet paper. I was there for over two weeks before my unjust deportation, after being brought before the Jerusalem magistrate (who refused to release me, being represented by famous Israeli lawyer Naftali Warzberger), and later before Israel's High Court who agreed there was no reason I shouldn't have been set free, that there was no risk of flight, but now they were just going to deport me since my citizenship request was denied.
The Temple Mount Faithful paid for all my legal expenses, recognizing the whole ordeal was politico-religious persecution against all of us, yet the Leftists targeted little ol' me!
Is it a crime to have an abiding love for Israel? To believe what's written in the Law and the Prophets concerning the Temple and our responsibility to construct it? To mourn that it hasn't been done yet? As the Jerusalem Talmud states: "every generation in which the Temple has not been built is as if the Temple were destroyed in it...." Isn't Israel's state emblem a gold menorah in between two gold olive branches?
Must I remain in exile, banished from the Land I love, because my hope, prayer, and dream is for Israel to fulfill what that symbol represents: the Temple and Israel's destiny to become a Light to all nations?

Public Security Minister Dichter told religious MKs that he'll act to allow Jews to visit Rachel's Tomb without restrictions in a matter of weeks. The MKs confronted him with other issues as well.
The nine-member National Union-National Religious Party Knesset faction invited Dichter yesterday (Monday) to discuss several issues of concern. Dichter [pictured] served as head of the General Security Service (Shabak) until joining the Kadima party in early 2006...
* A major issue of discussion was that of Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount. The police often prevent Jews from praying there at their most sacred site, in order to mollify the Arabs who threaten violence. Jewish prayer at the area known as the Small Wall, further north along the Western Wall, is also often restricted.
MK Uri Ariel said that this status quo must not be allowed to continue. "We must find the opportunity to change this situation, where Jews are not permitted to pray at their most sacred site," he said.
Dichter said that the issue is a diplomatic one that only the government can decide upon. MK Aryeh Eldad said that the Supreme Court had ruled clearly that individual Jews mut be allowed to pray on the Temple Mount. It was agreed that Eldad would transmit a copy of the ruling to Minister Dichter for his perusal...
Restore Jewish prayer upon the Temple Mount
David Ben-Ariel, Toledo, Ohio, USA/Menashe
MK Uri Ariel told Avi Dichter: "We must find the opportunity to change this situation, where Jews are not permitted to pray at their most sacred site." During a Root & Branch lecture in Jerusalem, Professor Nahum Rakover, then Deputy Attorney General of Israel, publicly agreed with me that it isn't illegal for Christians or Jews to pray upon the Temple Mount, even though it is forcibly prevented by the police. Professor Nahum Rakover basically said we're in this situation today because NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE WANT TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT to that religious site.

Tevet 15, 5767/January 5, 2007
Normally, we understand the use of a translator as being a means of clearly conveying a message spoken, (or written), in one language, into another. Yet ever since the confusion of tongues which G-d caused in order to confound the imperialistic machinations of the tyrant Nimrod, the megalomaniacal genius behind the building of the tower of Bavel, (Babylon), what is spoken in one language, is incomprehensible in another. The great sage Rashi, commenting on the "confusion of tongues" (Genesis 11:7), describes how one worker would ask for a new brick, another would hand him mortar, and yet a third would hit him over the head with a hammer. This wasn't a simple linguistic impasse which could be readily overcome by some hand gestures or facial expressions. A great gulf had been created between how peoples conceived of and described their worlds. To this day, we must concede that even the finest translation of words from one language to another is at best, a distant approximation. Imagine what must be lost when reading Hamlet in Chinese, or War and Peace in English.
Bearing all this in mind, one must question the motives of the Greek-Egyptian emperor Ptolemy, who, in the year 246 BCE, brought together 72 Torah sages, sent each one of them to his own separate chamber in order to work in total isolation, and ordered each one to translate the Torah from Hebrew to Greek. Was Ptolemy merely trying to fulfill the words of the prophet, by helping to spread the light of Torah to the nations? Or was he deliberately setting up a situation in which seventy two Torah sages would simultaneously produce seventy two different and conflicting translations, thereby confounding G-d's words, just as He had confounded the words of man so many generations before? So when the seventy two sages, through Divine inspiration, each produced the identical translation, it should have been a cause for great rejoicing. Yet the day that the translation was completed, the eighth of Tevet, was marked by the pious for many generations as a fast day. For even though the translation itself was Divinely inspired, the appearance in the world of the Torah exposed to the various cultural predilections of people, wise and great, perhaps, yet hostile to the divine truth of Torah, was, and remains, a great cause for trepidation. The Hebrew Torah, anchored in the very shapes and sounds of the Hebrew letters, is resilient, and ultimately repels all who would attempt to hijack its meaning for the sake of supporting their own intellectual or political agendas. But the Torah translated to a foreign tongue has been cut off from its source of Divine light, and is rendered vulnerable in the hands of the dissemblers.
Yosef - Joseph - also made use of a translator, not to convey truth, but as part of his ruse before his brothers. The mere presence of a translator led the brothers to assume that Yosef did not understand their Hebrew tongue: "And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for the translator was between them." (Genesis 42:23) The very wording of the verse seems to imply that the translator himself was the cause of their deception. The verse serves to confirm that translations are not to be taken at face value. And no one better understood the importance of language than Yosef. After all, he was the captive slave that described himself to Pharaoh as being a Hebrew. Underlining this is Rashi's comment that the translator referred to in the above verse was none other than Yosef's son Menasheh. Yosef, who never lost the knowledge of his own true identity, made certain to teach his children the Hebrew tongue.
In this past week's Torah reading, Vayigash, Yosef finally does away with all pretenses, and reveals to his brothers that he is Yosef. The ensuing emotional scene of reunion provides that answer to the question that begs to be asked: If the Torah cannot be adequately translated, then how can we encourage all those who are not knowledgeable in Hebrew to study Torah and to attach themselves to the G-d of Israel? When Yosef revealed his identity to his brothers, the interpreter disappeared. When Yosef came clean, the brothers remained speechless. The ultimate unity of brothers in the true light of Torah is not achieved through a mixing of tongues, but a unity of hearts.

Miriam Weiss: June 29, 1915 - January 4, 1997
Miriam Weiss and David Ben-Ariel,
Passover at Ramat Yohanan, 1990
(Click on image to enlarge it)
On that precious list of "Righteous Gentiles" (rare individuals who assisted Jews during the Holocaust) is the great name of Jan Bulski who risked his life and family in Poland to save my "kibbutz mother" -- Miriam Weiss -- who I met and was "adopted" by at Kibbutz Ramat Yohanan near Haifa in Northern Israel while a volunteer there from October 1982 to February 1983.
This is an excerpt from Kibbutz Ramat Yohanan, Restal Hotel, Tiberias, Israel -- a letter I wrote an American friend (without touching it up for spelling), July 27, 1989 from Kibbutz Ramat Yohanan, Israel:
"Miriam & I cried yesterday when she received a letter stating the man in Poland who hid her & saved her from the Gestapo & Holocaust, died. She opened up last week & told me what I hadn't known & how wealthy she was raised, how wealthy she married w/jewellery & furs & extensive rich contacts & travel in Europe & how happy she was, and had a cook for her & her husband & a maid also, & how after Hitler invaded Poland her husband immediately joined the underground buying weapons & insisting she move in w/friends for safety sake & how he was later captured by the Gestapo & murdered in Matthausen, Austria concentration camp & how sick w/grief & pain she was, she so loved him. And how one of the women who risked their lives to help save her later was caught attempting to save others & was murdered herself after being shipped to Ravensbruck concentration camp & how her mother was in the Warsaw Ghetto & sent to the gas chambers in Treblinka concentration camp. She cried when she spoke of how much pain can one take after her husband's death. Miriam just turned 74 about a month ago. I don't know how they handle such hell... She's been ill for the last 2 months & I feel helpless to help her..."
While writing this article to honor Miriam's memory and share history, I've practically gone mad looking for the fuchshia-colored paper I knew I had with her maiden name and the name of her Catholic Polish husband, a Gentile, one of four brothers who each owned the largest industrial banks in Poland, a paper I typed up in her home the day after she gave me detailed information about her life. I can't find it and wonder if I threw it out figuring Yad Vashem already has the information or what, but I can't imagine doing that as I would want to add my personal touch and memories to it. Perhaps it's all symbolic of the fears and frustrations of looking for lost family members, Holocaust survivors, and it's out of your control and so overwhelming.
Miriam said when Heydrich (Himmler?) thought things were going too slowly in Poland, he decided to round up a lot of people on "Black Saturday." That's when they took her husband away since he was involved in the Polish Underground. Miriam said she was in the Warsaw Ghetto with her mother (Miriam's parents were Zwi and Hana Hampel) but got out and was hid by a woman who was later sent to Ravensbruck herself for helping to rescue Jews. One night some drunk Poles came and banged on the door and told the woman they knew she was hiding "schwein, Jewish schwein," pretending to be Gestapo, and only left when they got a fur out of it. That's when the lady told Miriam she would have to go back into the Warsaw Ghetto until some other place could be found for her.
Miriam said that she had dyed her hair blond to look as Aryan as could be and wore a widow's veil and that the Nazi guards at the Warsaw Ghetto made a comment about how young she was to already be a widow. Later when another place was found for Miriam, she said her mother was so happy for her to get out but it was the last time she saw her and Miriam attributes her survival to her mother's prayers. Miriam said her mother was sent to Treblinka where she died, but a letter from Henia Seidman [Miriam's best Israeli-Polish friend] to me says she died in the Warsaw Ghetto. Miriam also said, if I remember correctly, that she was hid in a hole in the ground at Jan Bulski's place, and that the only thing to comfort her was a small vial of perfume she kept. I always gave her a gift of perfume for Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). Henia wrote Miriam was hidden in their kitchen. One thing for sure is Miriam said after the war everybody talked about where they were during the war and how hardly anybody could believe where she was hidden, as Jews weren't welcome there before the war! Miriam felt the Poles were more anti-Semitic than the Germans.
Miriam told me that she later arranged, after the Russians came, to make it to Berlin but you could never know for sure if the one you paid to help you get there would show up or come through and her help did, but she ended up in the Russian section of Berlin on Christmas Eve and was in a small room with no windows and mattresses on the floor with about 50 other people crammed in there. She said everybody hoped to get into the American quarter. She also said after the war there was so much food, almost too much food.
Miriam married someone I think she met that Christmas night in Berlin or knew him in Poland, Hanoch Eisenberg, and wandered with him in Europe and as Henia wrote, "the Joint brought her and her husband...to Italy. From Italy they went by ships to Israel, but in the time of English Mandate their ship was kidnapped and brought to Cyprus camps. In Cyprus they were perhaps a year and in 1949 they came to Ramat Jochanan."
Actually, Miriam had some friend or relative visiting Ramat Yohanan from Kibbutz Yagur who was reading a letter from her, as Miriam told me, and she started crying and Henia Seidman, being the soft-hearted woman she's known to be, asked her why and she told her how Miriam was so depressed in Cyprus and Henia said for her to tell her to plan to come to Ramat Yohanan. When Miriam first came to the kibbutz from Cyprus after Israeli independence, they called for Henia who was working in what was then the kitchen (not the big beautiful cheder ochel -- dining room -- they have today, she pointed out), practically a wooden shack, and although she had soot or something on her face her beautiful blue eyes shone through (and Henia had such beautiful blue eyes) and Henia and her mother hugged and welcomed Miriam as family. Henia's family left Poland before the Holocaust.
Miriam divorced Eisenberg who didn't want to stay on the kibbutz and moved to Tel Aviv. She later married - for one day - David Weiss from the kibbutz. I used to say hello to him and often saw him working at the kibbutz factory, Palram. A very short man, older, with white hair. I once ate with David and mentioned the Queen of England continued King David's dynasty, and was surprised he was familiar with the belief but appeared to dismiss it as "a nice story."
Miriam and Henia were both short Polish Jews. We would always sit together in the dining room and eat and they would carry on in Polish and some Hebrew and English. If you didn't know them you would think they were always arguing, but that's just how they talked, as I chuckle remembering them. The mail boxes were in the dining room too, and since it was easier for me to walk with my "long legs" and get Miriam's mail, I would. That's how I brought the letter to her that day when we found out Jan Bulski had died. I had only written him about once and sent him maybe $20 or more through some grateful Polish organization in Toledo, Ohio that would make sure he received it. They said it would be exchanged on the black market for more zlotys. He was a diabetic and did receive something monthly from Yad Vashem after Miriam and Henia saw to it. A tree was also planted in his honor on the "Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles" at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Miriam cried and said he didn't have to risk his life and the life of his family to save her but that he did and that he was such a good man. Henia and I just kept quiet and wept with her.
Miriam told me her family had their money from the tea industry. They bought and sold the famous Lyon tea from England and then repackaged it or whatever they did to make a profit. She loved the European concerts and later travelled with her husband all over Europe and North Africa. She said her love of music came from her mother.
Miriam had another kibbutz "son" like me, also an American, whose name is Joe from New Hampshire. She was going to leave him her photo-album. Joe travelled with her to Switzerland to visit a mutual friend whom Miriam tried to play matchmaker between him and her, but they remained friends and nothing more. Miriam used to ask why Moses couldn't have led the Children of Israel to Switzerland! People would speak of Miriam's sons as "Joe and Hoover." (I was born with the family name of Hoover but legally changed my name to David Ben-Ariel for religious reasons). Miriam used to exclaim, "Do you know how many people would love to have your passport? To be an American?" I would tell her that although I dearly love the United States I want to live in Israel and she would mellow and say something like, "Well, if that makes you happy, if that's what you want." She also worried that I would get killed like Meir Kahane for being so outspoken.
One of my many fond and funny memories is Miriam and I arriving somewhat late to a Sukkot celebration around the swimming pool at Ramat Yohanan, and there were plenty of people standing around and we looked for a place to stand and then she found a bale of straw to sit on near the front and then there appeared to be some confusion as the lady who was to lead the children's singing was frantically looking about and then discovered that Miriam was sitting on the folded banner that had the words to their song!
Miriam used to rest in bed after we ate in the afternoon and listen to her classical music (I gave her Grandma Vivian Hoover's classical albums) and read The Jerusalem Post and then sigh how she hated politics, comment that she was weary of world news, but she would continue to read the newspapers and listen every hour on the hour to the news on the radio as I read a book or wrote in her living room (where she displayed the Austrian crystal glass castle I once gave her for a gift, which I called "the Kingdom of Messiah" -- because of its brilliance -- and Joe's paintings adorned her walls...Miriam had an artist and an author for her sons).
Every time I visited Israel, I would head straight for Miriam's. The last time I saw her was in 1995 when her friends told me she had Alzheimer's. She had been moved from her apartment to the nursing home. They told me if she would remember anybody, it would be me. I went in and she was strapped in a wheelchair, wanting out, and wanting me to get her out and speaking German to me. (Miriam knew German, English, Polish and Hebrew). She held on to my arm so tightly, looking frightened, and I said, "Miriam, it's David. I'm American. Speak Hebrew or English. I don't know German." She was crying and I was crying. Another Miriam, originally from Berlin, was very angry about Miriam's deteriorating situation and said the Germans who doubted the Holocaust should hear Miriam reliving it and crying out for her mother, as if once wasn't enough! Henia wrote me that Miriam was born in Poland June 29, 1915 and died January 4, 1997 at Ramat Yohanan and was buried there and "got a very fine monument at our cemetery."
For greater insight into my beloved Miriam, I'll close with portions of a March 18, 1988 letter of commendation she wrote on my behalf to Joseph Tkach, Jr. of the Worldwide Church of God:
...my kibbutz son David Hoover...first came to our kibbutz seven years ago...he posted [actually somebody else did in the communal dining room] an article he had written about his struggle to free himself from drugs for all the members to read. A very brave thing to do since drug addiction is here considered a terrible social and personal crime. I invited him to visit me and we subsequently got to know each other well. David stayed on our kibbutz six months the first time. He worked hard and thus earned the respect of many members here. There was never any trouble. Quite the contrary. And David shared with us his Christian beliefs that had given him such strength to overcome his addiction...When I say he shared his beliefs I mean that he offered but did not force them upon us. As might be well known to you we are sensitive to any aggressive presentations of Christianity that denigrate our Jewish heritage. But David has a deep and affectionate respect for it. I myself am not religious and must admit that I am sometimes bewildered by his impressive knowledge of the Bible and Jewish customs but if it give his life fulfillment I am very happy for him...Over the past seven years David has come to Ramat Yohanan to celebrate Sukkot. He has stayed with me and is a very well behaved guest. He also corresponds with me regularly and started my subscription to Plain Truth which I do read with interest. Recently I continued the subscription. I might add that several other members of our kibbutz now read it too...I think confidence can be placed in him to represent your church here in the Middle East...
I yearn to return to Zion and visit Miriam's gravesite, but Ramat Yohanan just wouldn't be the same without her. And the dining room without Miriam or Henia...
